The Detroit Auto Show, which will take place in January shall be staging new cars from various automakers across the globe together with the latest edition of past models like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Jaguar XK Convertible, Lincoln Aviator crossover SUV, Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertible and Toyota Camry.

Here are some of the cars to look forward in 2006. Some of these will have their debut in the NAIAS:

* Acura RDX Prototype – this is a close production of the RD-X Concept shown last year at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Acura has not yet given details about this new model; however it said that it remains close to the one shown last year at the NAIAS.

* BMW M Roadster and Z4 Coupe – BMW shall unveil 2 new cars in Detroit, the BMW Z4 M Roadster and the BMW M Roadster. The new BMW M Roadster, powered by the same engine found in the BMW M3, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds, says BMW. Also making its debut is the Z4 Coupe Concept. Although earlier introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the BMW Z4 Coupe Concept shall have its first appearance in North America in the Detroit auto show.

* Dodge Challenger Concept – To be introduced in January is an all-new dodge Challenger Concept. “This concept possesses the heritage and classic forms of the original Dodge Challenger," said Trevor Creed, senior vice president of design at the Chrysler Group. "However, the ability to use the Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 series architecture as the concept's foundation allowed us to bring a new level of quality and fit-and-finish to a muscle car icon.”

* Ford Edge – this is the newest crossover SUV from Ford, which calls it a “CUV.” Its styling is based on the new Ford Fusion however Ford still has to disclose more details about this latest model. Says Peter Horbury in MSN Autos, “the new Ford Edge will inject a healthy dose of American design and personality into the hot crossover market.”

* Honda Fit - this new model from Honda is quite similar to the Honda Jazz sold in Europe. It is a small four-door hatchback that brings to us memories of the old Honda Civic wagon that was sold in the U.S. in the late 1980s. Like other automakers, Honda does not disclose yet details about this new model.
